High Commission of India hosts Send-off Reception for New Batch of ICCR Scholars

The High Commission of India, Dhaka hosted a get-together to bid farewell and wish success to students who were selected for ICCR scholarship on Monday (Aug 7) at the Chancery premises.

Around 150 awardees, representing the more than 330 selected scholars in and around Dhaka area attended the event.

These students were selected from across Bangladesh for ICCR scholarship for Under-Graduate, Post-Graduate and PhD courses to undertake higher studies in prestigious educational institutions in India, said the High Commission of India in Dhaka on Monday (Aug 7), reports Daily Sun.

Around 337 students from Dhaka, 77 from Chattogram, 63 from Rajshahi, 45 from Khulna and 28 from Sylhet, were among the selected ones.

The variety of courses offered were ranged from Engineering to Arts, Fine Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Dance and Culture.

These students coming from varied backgrounds will now study at premier educational institutes in different regions of India.

Through this, they would also experience the diversity of India’s culture and languages, through their contact with the regional traditions prevailing in the areas of their study.

These young talented minds, after their successful academic pursuits, would go on to become leaders in Bangladesh’s progress in all fields, especially culture, economics, science and technology.

Deputy High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, Dr. Binoy George, interacted with the ICCR batch of 2023-24, during the event.

The Deputy High Commissioner gave briefing and narrated anecdotes from his professional experience to encourage students to adapt to their new life in a familiar, yet foreign country.

During the interaction, young students, who are at the cusp of a new academic journey in their career, asked various questions pertaining to the ICCR scholarship, which were duly answered.

Other senior officers of the Mission also motivated and encouraged the students.

ICCR is a flagship program of Government of India for meritorious Bangladeshi nationals to pursue various courses in India at Undregraduate, Postgraduate and PhD levels.

The scholarships have been extremely popular in Bangladesh and over the years, more than 4,500 Bangladeshi nationals have availed these scholarships to study at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT), Delhi University, JNU, National Law School, Rabindra Bharati University, etc.

Some of the famous ICCR alumni include well-known Rabindra Sangeet exponent - Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Vice-Chancellor - Dalem Chandra Barman, Dean of Fine Arts in Dhaka University - Professor Nisar Hossain, famous cartoonist - Shishir Bhattacharjee, among others.
