Motorcycles prohibited on Pahela Boishakh in DU, in addition to other instructions

The authority of University of Dhaka has given few instructions on celebrating Pahela Baishakh and bringing out Mangal Shovajatra procession on the first day of Bangla New Year.

In a meeting held at Dr. Nawab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building on Sunday, under the chairmanship of Professor ASM Maqsood Kamal, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, several decisions have been taken in this regard.

After the meeting, the press release from the university informed that on the occasion of the Bangla New Year celebration, this year's Mangal Shovajatra procession will be brought out from the Faculty of Fine Arts at 9 am with the theme of 'Amra to Timirbinashi'. The Mangal Shobhajatra will take a turn from in front of Shishu Park via Shahbagh intersection and will end at TSC.

The notification mentions that wearing of any type of mask and carrying of bags in the university campus on Pahela Boishakh is prohibited. However, the masks prepared by the Faculty of Fine Arts can be displayed in hands. Besides, it has been requested to refrain from playing and selling vuvuzila flutes in the university campus.

The notification also said that the New Year celebrations in the campus should be completed by 5 pm and entry to the campus on New Year's Day will be allowed till 5 pm. Also, on New Year's Eve, on Saturday, April 13, after 7:00 p.m., no vehicles other than vehicles with university stickers will be allowed to enter the campus. Vehicles cannot be driven on campus on New Year's Day and motorcycling is strictly prohibited.

The gate of Suhrawardy Udyan in front of TSC will be closed on Pahela Baisakh day. It is reported that the gate of the photo booth in front of the fine arts faculty, the gate in front of Bangla Academy and the gate next to the engineering institution can be used to enter Suhrawardy Udyan.
