Education minister’s residence vandalized, AL MP’s office set on fire in Ctg

Miscreant carried out vandalism at Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel’s residence in Chasma Hill area in Chattogram during the student movement over the quota reform issue on Saturday.

The miscreants entered the residence around 6:45 pm and carried out extensive vandalism, also badly damaging a car. A private car near the house was set on fire by the miscreants, Daily Sun reports.   

The estimated cost of the damage could not be determined immediately.

On the other hand, quota reform protestors set the political office of a lawmaker on fire, ransacked two police boxes and damaged several roadside CCTV cameras during the pre-scheduled program in Chattogram on Saturday.

Several thousand protesters, mainly students, started gathering at New Market Intersection in the city around 2:30 pm on Saturday as part of the central programme.

People from all walks of life and various professions joined the protest programnme in processions brought from different parts of the city.

They were marching towards Tigerpass from the gathering around 5:30 pm and as they reached the area, they vandalised a police box there.

They also set fire to the political office of local lawmaker Mohiuddin Bachchu in the area.

Earlier, they vandalised a police box and roadside CCTV cameras in New Market area of the city during the agitation.
