Regent chairman Shahed’s bail to remain stayed

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court said that the bail granted to Regent Group Chairman Md Shahed in an arms case by the High Court will remain stayed.

An Appellate Division bench led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Monday.

The bench will hear the state's leave to appeal against the High Court's bail in the meantime.

Shahed was arrested on July 15, 2020, from Satkhira.

On September 28, 2020, he was sentenced to life in an arms case.

He was eventually granted bail by the High Court on June 7 this year.

On June 12, a chamber court stayed the bail order as the state appealed against the bail order.

On July 6 of 2020, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) raided two hospitals of Regent Group in Uttara and Mirpur and arrested the eight for issuing fake corona test results and certificates by using forged serial numbers and signatures of concerned authorities, realizing illegal fees from the patients, running hospital business without having any proper approval, among other charges.
