DIG Mizan dismissed from service

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Mizanur Rahman, who was in prison after being suspended and convicted in a corruption case, has been dismissed from service.

A gazette notification signed by the senior secretary of the Home Ministry Md Aminul Islam following the order of the President issued the order on Thursday.

In May 2019, the ACC launched an enquiry into the alleged accumulation of illegal wealth by Mizan.  He was later withdrawn as additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

On July 1, 2019, the High Court handed Mizan over to police after he surrendered before it seeking bail in a case -- filed over acquiring over Tk 3 crore through illegal means.

On 23 February 2022, Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 Sheikh Nazmul Alam sentenced Mizanur Rahman and suspended ACC director Khandaker Enamul Basir to three and eight years in jail, respectively in a bribery case.
