Fakhrul, Abbas again denied bail

A Dhaka court on Wednesday rejected the bail petitions of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas in a case filed with Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge Asaduzzaman turned down the petitions when their lawyers sought bail for them, reports UNB.

Syed Joynal Abedin Mezbah, a lawyer of the BNP leaders, said it is the 4th time that the top BNP leaders have been denied bail in the case.

On December 9, a team of Detective Branch of police picked up Fakhrul and Abbas from their homes in separate raids in the capital city, just one day before their party’s divisional anti-government rally.

Later, they were shown arrested in a case over the clash between police and the party activists in the capital’s Nayapaltan on December 7.

On December 12, a Dhaka court rejected the bail petitions of 224 leaders and activists of BNP, including Fakhrul and Abbas.

Earlier on December 15, a Dhaka court again rejected the bail petitions of the two BNP leaders in the case.

A Dhaka court ordered to give a division facility to them on December 9 and then they were given the division facility on December 13.

According to the case statement, they were accused of instigating, planning and directing an attack on the police.
