IMF DMD meets Speaker

A delegation led by the Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Antoinette Monsio Sayeh paid a courtesy call on Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Tuesday.

IMF Resident Representative in Bangladesh and Bhutan Jayendu De was present at the meeting.

During the meeting, the delegation discussed the surprising development of Bangladesh, IMF’s cooperation with Bangladesh, climate change, and subsidies in the power sector.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said Bangladesh’s progress has slowed down due to the Corona and Russia-Ukraine war and sanctions and counter-sanctions. But its wheels are still running due to the relentless effort of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Praising Bangladesh’s progress, Antoinette Monsio Sayeh said IMF has been a development partner of Bangladesh for a long time.

She also said IMF will continue its assistance to Bangladesh to make the country a developed, enriched, and middle-income within 2041.
