Bangabazar fire: DSCC forms probe body

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) formed an eight-member probe committee to investigate the massive fire that broke out at the Bangabazar market in Dhaka on Tuesday morning, reports UNB.

The probe committee, led by the regional executive officer of DSCC zone-5, was tasked to prepare a list of the victims and investigate the cause of the fire.

The office order signed by the DSCC Secretary Akramuzzaman, asked the committee to submit the report within three days.

The devastated blaze was brought under control after more than six hours of frantic efforts of 48 firefighting units.

The devastating fire broke out at the market around 6:10 am and soon spread.

Forty-eight firefighting units were working to extinguish the blaze. A barrack of the police headquarters was burnt due to the fire.

Aggrieved traders attacked the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters saying that firefighters failed to quickly douse the fire. Several firefighters were injured in the attack.
