The High Court on Monday granted anticipatory bail to Dhaka district BNP General Secretary Nipun Roy Chowdhury for three months in a case filed in connection with an Awami League-BNP clash in Keraniganj on May 26.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Ahmed Sohel passed the order following a petition filed by Nipun Roy seeking bail in the case.
Lawyer Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Barrister Debashish Roy Chowdhury and Mithun Roy Chowdhury were in the court on behalf of the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Amit Talukdar represented the state.Earlier, Nipun, on a wheelchair and with part of her head bandaged, appeared before the HC bench for bail.
The accused BNP leader, who has been admitted in a private hospital, went to the HC by an ambulance in the morning.
Nipun Roy and several leaders and activists were injured in an attack on Friday morning during a public gathering at Zinjira in South Keraniganj of the capital.
