A 12-year child was killed after falling an iron rod on his head from an under-construction elevated expressway at Mohakhali in the capital on Monday, police said.

The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.

The tragic incident occurred around 9:30 am, when the child was sitting near the rail tracks, reports Daily Sun.

The victim suffered critical head injuries and some pedestrians took him to a nearby hospital in Mohakhali.

As his condition deteriorated, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors declared him dead around 12:45 pm, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost.
