Sirajul Islam, the first mayor of Khulna City Corporation (KCC), passed away due to old-age complications at his residence in Khulna City early Sunday.
He was 90.
Shafiqul Islam Sipar, elder son of the former mayor, said his father breathed his last around 4:45 am at their house on Haji Mohsin Road in the city, reports UNB.Sirajul's namaz-e-janaza will be held at Khulna’s Shaheed Hadis Park after Asr prayers, he said.
The former mayor is survived by two sons, four daughters, and a host of well-wishers.
His wife died earlier.
Current KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque has expressed his deep condolence for the death of Sirajul Islam and prayed for the salvation of the departed soul.
He also conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
