A Dhaka court on Sunday framed charges against nine persons including Mohammad Ishtiaque, brother-in-law of complainant Badiul Alam Majumder, secretary of Shushashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) in a case filed over the attack on the convoy of former US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat in 2018.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nurul Huda Chowdhury ordered the trial to begin by framing the charge, reports banglanews24.com.
The other accused are - Mohammadpur Thana Chhatra League General Secretary (Currently President) Naimul Hasan, the then Joint General Secretary Mir Amzad Hossain, Firoz Mahmud, Md. Saju Islam, Rajibul Islam Raju, Shahidul Alam Khan Kajal, Siam, Oli Ahmed aka Johnny.On August 4, 2018, some 30 unidentified miscreants attacked the car of Bernicat, who was about to leave the residence of Badiul Alam around 11:00 pm after attending a courtesy dinner in her honour.
Six days later, Badiul Alam filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 10, 2018.
The nine accused were formally charged on March 1, 2022, and the trial commenced on March 28 of the previous year.
