‘India’s Warren Buffet’ to be paid last tribute Sunday

Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, popularly known as ‘India’s Warren Buffet' would be paid last tribute in Mumbai on Sunday evening where the final rites of the billionaire would be held.

The last rites are expected to take place at around 5:30pm, reports Hindustan Times.

In tributes, which have been pouring out since morning after the news of his death broke, top political and business leaders in India have acknowledged the inspiring rise of the self-made investor.

His body was brought back from the hospital on Sunday morning.

Jhunjhunwala’s death comes just a week after the launch of India’s youngest budget airlines, Akasa Air. He was a co-founder and had 40 per cent stakes in the airline.

Akasa Air Founder and CEO Vinay Dube said, “We at Akasa cannot thank Jhunjhunwala enough for being an early believer in us and putting his trust and faith in us to build a world-class airline. Jhunjhunwala had an invincible spirit, was deeply passionate about everything Indian and cared greatly for the well-being of our employees and customers. Akasa Air will honour his legacy, values and belief in us by striving to run a great airline.”

Jhunjhunwala was believed to be unwell for some time. His last photograph at the launch event - in a wheelchair - will remain a memory of his indomitable spirit for his admirers.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

According to Forbes' list, with a net worth of $5.8 billion, Jhunjhunwala was among top 500 richest people in the world.
