‘Image of jewellers restored as PM grants timely gold policy’

Bangladesh Jewellers’ Association (BAJUS) said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has restored the status of the jewellers through a modern gold policy which was the time of the day.

Leaders of the BAJUS came up with the observations during a view-exchange meeting with the Kurigram district unit on Thursday.

BAJUS former president Dr Dilip Kumar Roy attended the programme as the chief guest.

He said, “Earlier, gold traders were underestimated. A section of people used to label jewellers as smugglers. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina relieved them of the stigma by a timely gold policy."

Recalling the contribution of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir, he said, “The Bashundhara Managing Director Anvir is relentlessly striving to bring back congenial atmosphere to the jewellery sector.”

Meanwhile, BAJUS, in another programme, demanded a safe business environment for local businesses as many retailers experienced harassment from a section of law enforcers.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy sought intervention from the home minister to improve the situation while addressing a meeting in Lalmonirhat as the chief guest the same day.

“Jewellery owners and employees across the country are constantly experiencing theft and police harassment,” he said.

He appreciated the dynamic leadership of BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir for his endeavour to bring gold days to the gold industry.

Dr Dilip also urged the local units of the organisation to cooperate with the central committee to reach success collectively.

BAJUS advisor Ruhul Amin Rasel was the special guest while Lalmonirhat unit president Himanshu Sarkar presided over the meeting.

BAJUS executive member Reponul Hasan and district monitoring committee member Enamul Haque Sohel and district unit general secretary Dulal Chandra Karmakar were also present on the occasion.
