Indian rupee closes weaker against dollar

The Indian rupee closed weaker against the US dollar following a flat opening on Friday, reports NDTV.

The domestic unit depreciated 11 paise to close at 82.84 against the greenback.

It had closed at 82.73 on Thursday.

According to Bloomberg data, this is the lowest closing level for the Indian currency since February 27.

The rupee had hit a two-and-a-half-month low on Thursday, tracking broader losses in Asian peers.

The rupee had opened flat against the US dollar on Friday as traders were cautious ahead of non-farm payroll data. Reliance Securities expected the rupee to open on a flat note against the dollar as investors turned cautious ahead of non-farm payroll numbers.

Further weakness could trigger an RBI intervention to cap losses, the brokerage said in a note on Friday.
