Inflation slightly falls to 9.69% in July

General rate of inflation in the country modestly declined to 9.69 percent in July thanks to a fall in non-food items’ prices.

In the month of June, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) recorded at 9.74 percent inflation on point-to-point basis.

The state statistics agency released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) data on Sunday, reports Daily Sun.

It showed that month-on-month inflation edged down to 0.39 percent in July from 1.26 percent in June, mainly driven a big fall in food prices.

But food inflation on point-to-point basis surged to 9.76 percent in July from 9.73 percent one month earlier, while non-food inflation dropped to 9.47 percent from 9.60 percent in June.

Monthly data compiled by BBS show that food inflation dropped to 0.44 percent in July which was much higher at 2.39 percent in June.

Month-on-month non-food inflation, on the other hand, marginally declined to 0.34 percent from 0.37 percent one month ago.
