Bashundhara Impress arrives in Mongla with coal for Rampal plant

A commercial ship MV Bashundhara Impress on Sunday arrived at Mongla port with 31,700 metric tonnes (MT) of coal from Indonesia.

The Rampal thermal power plant will go back into production soon with this coal.

The ship anchored at jetty no-12 of the port's Harbaria point around 11:00 am, said Power Plant Deputy General Manager (DGM) Anwar ul Azim, reports banglanews24.com.

He said coal for Rampal thermal power plant arrived at Mongla port. Now the process of unloading coal from there and bringing it to the power plant is going on.

On 24 July, Basundhara Impress, carrying a total of 49,700 MT of coal for the Rampal thermal power plant, left Indonesia for Bangladesh.

On 5 August, the ship arrived at Chattogram port and offloaded an initial 18,000 MT of coal which was transported to the Rampal power station on Sunday, said Togi Shipping and Logistics, the local shipping agent of Bashundhara Impress ship.

Later, the remaining quantity of 31,700 MT reached Mongla port on Sunday. From here, it will be transported to the Rampal power station via smaller lighter ships.

Meanwhile, the initial batch of 18,000 MT of coal which was unloaded at the Chattogram port on 5 August reached the power plant.

However, the Rampal will go for power generation again within a day or two after it receives the total amount of coal.
