Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Faruque Hassan has emphasised the pivotal role of the media in reshaping the global perception of Bangladesh’s garment industry.

He came up with the observation during his meeting with National Press Club president Farida Yasmin on Saturday.

He also acknowledged the media’s influence in dispelling myths and showcasing the industry’s achievements and positive stories to the world.

During the meeting, Faruque Hassan highlighted the remarkable progress made by the garment industry in important areas such as workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and workers’ rights and well-being.

Bangladesh has earned global accolades, positioning itself as one of the safest and greenest apparel sourcing destinations worldwide, he remarked.

Despite the transformative socio-economic impact of the industry on Bangladesh, President Hassan said, many success stories often went untold, and the industry was sometimes portrayed negatively with biased information.

President Faruque Hassan called for the cooperation and support of the media in removing such misconceptions, urging journalists to highlight the industry’s achievements and its potential for further positive impact.

He emphasised the need for presenting a more accurate and comprehensive picture of the garment sector in Bangladesh.

Faruque Hassan extended an invitation to Farida Yasmin and National Press Club members to tour BGMEA, exploring its initiatives in R&D, circularity, sustainability, market promotion, and design development, contributing to the advancement of the RMG industry.
