‘BAJUS is now more organised under leadership of its president’

Speakers at a meeting said that Bangladesh Jeweller’s Association (BAJUS) is now more organised and vibrant than any period in the past under the dynamic leadership of Bashundhara Group Managing Director (MD) and BAJUS President Sayem Sobhan Anvir.

The president is playing a key role to take the industry further ahead, they said.

Earlier, gold traders had to face police harassment. Now, if any trader is harassed, it is resolved with a quick step, said the speakers.

They were addressing at the Biennial General Meeting of BAJUS Chattogram held at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) on Saturday, reports Daily Sun.

BAJUS Chattogram President Mrinal Kanti Dhar presided over the meeting conducted by Assistant Secretaries Md Shahjahan Siddiqui and Rajib Dhar.

The unit’s General Secretary Pranab Saha said some unscrupulous traders used to keep the shop open even on the closing day and conduct business. Now, the practice has been reduced to 95 per cent due to the initiative of BAJUS.

In Chattogram, some traders have started a dirty competition of selling gold at low prices instead of selling at the prices fixed by BAJUS. Policies are being adopted in this regard, he said.

“Besides, we have informed traders through notices to be careful about buying old gold, selling gold through cash memo, buying gold through purchase vouchers and keeping a copy of the seller's NID card,” said the secretary.

“If the guidance is followed, we will be able to solve any problem quickly. We are working to improve the quality of gold traders in association with the BAJUS central committee,” said Pranab.

President Mrinal also said that five committees—law and order, administrative, office management, printing and press, and trial and arbitration—were formed to speed up the activities of the organisation.

Putting up the transparency of the committees, the president said there were different allegations against previous committees, but they are working for welfare of the members with due accountability in financial dealing.

He also requested the traders to be members of the organisation to have different facilities for smooth business in the coming days.

BAJUS Vice President Sudhir Ranjan Banik delivered the welcome speech while General Secretary Pranab Saha read out the editorial report, Treasurer Pratap Dhar presented the annual income and expenditure report at the meeting.

Other top officials and executive members were also present at the meeting.
