Inflation rose to 9.89 per cent in May due to the higher food prices, according to a Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data released on Monday.

The food inflation surged by 54 basis points to 10.76 per cent from 10.22 per cent, while non-food inflation decreased by 15 basis points to 9.19 per cent from 9.34 per cent.

The food inflation spiked to 10.22 per cent in April from 9.87 per cent in March, marking its highest level in the past five months, adversely impacting the economically disadvantaged and those with low incomes, Daily Sun reported.
