The last fiscal--2022-23 saw the highest inflation in the last 12 years. Inflation in this financial year was 9.02 per cent, reports UNB.
State Minister for Commerce Ahsanul Islam Titu said this on Sunday while replying to a tabled question of ruling Awami League MP elected from Noakhali Morshed Alam.
According to the information placed by the state minister, inflation rate was 8.69 percent in 2011-12 fiscal; 6.78 percent in 2012-13 fiscal; 7.35 percent in 2013-14 fiscal; 6.41 percent in 2014-15; 5.92 percent in 2015-16; 5.44 percent in 2016-17; 5.78 percent in 2017-18; 5.48 percent in 2018-19; 5.65 percent in 2019-20; 5.56 percent in 2020-21; 6.15 percent in 2021-22 and 9.02 percent inflation rate in 2022-23.In response to ruling Awami League MP Samil Uddin Ahmed, the state minister for Commerce said that currently Bangladesh has business transactions with 210 countries of the world. Among the countries, Bangladesh has a trade deficit with 82 countries.
According to the information placed by the state minister, Bangladesh has the largest trade deficit with China which is $ 17,149.2 million.
According to the statistics of 2022-23, the total trade deficit of Bangladesh is $ 15,239.55 million.
In response to the question of the Independent MP elected from Natore-1 Abul Kalam, Ahsanul Islam Titu said that there is a trade deficit with countries other than Sri Lanka and Maldives among the SAARC countries.
