Masrur Reaz named new BSEC chief

The interim government on Tuesday appointed economist M Masrur Reaz as the new chairman of the Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC).

The Financial Institutions Division (FID) of the finance ministry issued a circular in this regard Tuesday, Daily Sun reports.

Masrur is the latest high-profile public figure to join a top post in state-run institutions as part of a drive undertaken by the transitional government to overhaul the largely corruption-friendly state apparatus.

Masrur is the chairman and founder of Policy Exchange Bangladesh. During 2010-20, he served in many senior roles within the World Bank and was employed in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, among others.

Previously, during 2007-10 he was and adviser at UK government’s Department for International Development (DFID).

He earned his PhD from the University of Manchester, UK and did master’s at University of New Orleans, US.
