Hatem elected BKMEA president

Mohammad Hatem, managing director of MB Knit Fashion Ltd, was on Sunday elected as the president of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) after AKM Salim Osman resigned from the post.

According to a BKMEA press release issued Sunday, the organisation’s board of directors accepted former Awami League lawmaker Selim Osman’s resignation at a meeting held at BKMEA central office in the capital.

Osman quit citing “health issues”, but spoke at the meeting through videoconference.

Salim Osman assumed the role of BKMEA president on 20 September 2010 and skipped five consecutive organisational elections.

The new president Hatem has been a vice-president for a long time.

BKMEA also elected Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, proprietor of Fatullah Apparels, as the new executive president of the association, while Mansoor Ahmed was made senior vice president.

Other vice presidents are: Md Shamsuzzaman, Md Morshed Sarwar (Sohel), Amal Podder, Gauhar Siraj Jamil, Md. Akhter Hossain Apurbo, and Mohammad Rashed.
