Germany out of World Cup despite win over Costa Rica

Germany won their last group match against Costa Rica 4-2, but failed to move to round of 16 as Japan, in the other match stunned Spain 2-1.

Its second time in a row four-times trophy winner Germany is out of the FIFA World Cup in the group phase.

As expected, Germany were dominant in ball possession, playing one on one with each other and marching towards Costa Rica's defense to find the back of the net. They did find the net in the 10th minute as Serge Gnabry's header from the center of the d-box beat Costa Rican goalkeeper Keylor Navas, assisted by David Raum.

Young prospect Jamal Musiala was the heart of Germany's every attack. Musiala's dribbling and passing accuracy are simply eye-catching to watch. Despite creating a lot of chances, Germany had to settle for a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

In contrast, Costa Rica were busy guarding its own defense and making counterattacks when it got the chance. They were so close to finding the back of the net, but the lack of quality in the attacking line-up cost them badly.

The game opened up even more in the second half, especially when Yeltsin Tejeda scored for Costa Rica in the 58th minute. Germany became desperate to reclaim the lead by applying more pressure to the opposing half. Rather than regaining the lead, Germany allowed Juan Vargas to score in the 70th minute. Within three minutes, Germany made the score 2-2 thanks to Kai Havertz's goal.

The German side continued to push the opposition, hoping to get all three points from the contest. They eventually found the third goal in the 85th minute as Kai Havertz scored his second of the night, followed by the fourth by Niclas Fullkrug.
