No Western pressure on election commission: EC Habib

Election commissioner (EC) Brig. Gen. (retd.) Md. Ahsan Habib Khan on Monday said there’s no external pressure from Western powers on the election commission.

“We’ve only political problems, which is not a pressure to us. We don’t know whether there’s any pressure on the country. If it has, the government and political leaders will face it,” he said.

EC Anisur said this to the journalists in a view exchanging meeting regarding 12th national parliamentary elections held in the DC conference room of Khulna on Monday noon.

Md. Ahsan Habib Khan said, "We never said about delaying the schedule. It is our heartfelt desire that all parties participate. We have an obligation to take the oath by January 28. However, if any party applies for postponement of the schedule, we will sincerely try to consider it in the commission meeting.”

He said, "We had a control when there were EVMs. I will prove that it is possible to make a correct election in the ballot, with the cooperation of all. I will present an election that will be an example for future generations. Those who will come for election in the future will learn from here, adopt new ways and do better, InshAllah. We hope that the voter percentage will be good in this election."
