Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty’s book on India-Bangladesh relations

Former High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty has written a book on 'India-Bangladesh relations' titled “Transformation Emergence of Bangladesh and Evolution of India-Bangladesh Ties.”

The book explores various aspects of India's foreign policy towards post-independence neighboring countries, especially Bangladesh.

India has been closely associated with Bangladesh since its birth, which is the third largest neighbor in terms of population.

Apart from mentioning various aspects of India-Bangladesh bilateral relations in the last half century, the book also highlights the history of Bengal as a new nation in the subcontinent, partition and how the state of Bangladesh was born.

In addition to bilateral relations, the internal development of Bangladesh, challenges such as political unrest after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, political interference by the military, conflict between secularism and theocracy, various rebellions including the Chakma rebellion, communal tensions, sustaining democracy, etc. have been highlighted in the book.

Along with that, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's extraordinary contribution to the fundamental transformation of India-Bangladesh bilateral relations and the wonderful economic development of Bangladesh were also highlighted.

Diplomat Pinak Ranjan Chakravarty joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1977. During his diplomatic career he served in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Israel, Bangladesh and Thailand. In New Delhi, he served as Deputy Coordinator of SAARC Summit in 1995 and Chief of Protocol, Ministry of External Affairs, in the Protocol and Americas Division.
