Qaumi madrasas to remain operational: Education Minister

Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury reiterated the existence and future continuity of Qaumi Madrasahs in Bangladesh.

The education minister said these things in a press conference organized on Tuesday in the secretariat.

Addressing concerns regarding the registration and educational standards of Noorani Madrasahs, the minister emphasized the need for uniformity in their operations. He clarified that his remarks were aimed at ensuring proper registration and curriculum adherence, rather than suggesting the closure of Qaumi Madrasahs.

Denouncing the distortion of his statement by certain political entities, the minister emphasized that his intentions were misconstrued to fuel misinformation and create unnecessary tension. He stressed the significance of Qaumi Madrasahs in Bangladesh's education system, citing legal recognition and historical acknowledgment, including the highest degree of education conferred by Sheikh Hasina.

Affirming his commitment to improving students' skills and literacy levels to enhance their employability, the minister reiterated his willingness to collaborate with relevant authorities. He underscored that no discussions regarding the closure of madrassas have taken place, emphasizing the importance of maintaining transparency and constructive dialogue in educational matters.
