Bashundhara Foundation’s Initiative: Fueling Minds, Nourishing Futures

Bashundhara Foundation has been providing meals to the students of Durgarampur Government Primary School in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria for 13 years. In this way, a total of 309 students in the school are getting nutritious food every day. Because of this great initiative, the attendance rate of students is increasing.

While visiting the school, this correspondent found that the classrooms numbered from One to Five were brimming with students, occupying every available seat and engaged in their academic endeavors, Daily Sun reported.

During the designated class breaks, typically around 11:00am, the school authority diligently serves meals to students in classes I and II. Following this, students in class III receive their meals starting at 12:00pm and again at 2:00pm to class IV to V students. The joy expressed by the students upon receiving these meals reflects the significance of this provision in their daily lives.

Abdullah Al Mahin, a third-grade student, said that they do not have to bring food from home. They satiate their hunger by eating the regular tiffin provided by the school.

Mariam Akhter, a fourth-grade student, said that the Bashundhara Foundation provides different meals to their school daily. These include eggs, bread, bananas, biscuits, crackers and fruits.

Parents of the students said that they are very happy with the regular tiffin provided to their kids in a primary school at the rural level. This nutritious meal not only benefits them physically but also increases their interest in school.

Akalima Akhter, head teacher of the school, said: “Bashundhara Foundation is giving tiffin to all the students of our school every day. It increases the attendance of students. Along with this, the quality of education is also improving. We are very grateful to Bashundhara Group.”

Maimun Kabir, DGM of Bashundhara Group, said: “Since 2011, we have been giving tiffin to the students of Durgarampur Government Primary School on behalf of our group. We provide eggs and singhara two days a week, the other two days are bananas and bread, while biscuits and fruits are being provided on the remaining day. We maintain the good quality of food.”
