Dr. Younus to pay Tk 119 cr income tax

The High Court on Thursday scrapped seven income tax references filed by Grameen Kalyan, a nonprofit social business company founded by Nobel Laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus, upholding NBR's claim to Tk 119 crore in income tax from the company.

A High Court division bench of Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir delivered the verdict, reports BSS.

"Because of this judgment, Grameen Kalyan now have to pay Taka 119 crore as income tax for seven tax years," Assistant Attorney General Tahmina Poly told newsmen.

Advocates Sardar Jinnat Ali, Md Umbar Ali and Delwar Hossain moved the pleas for Grameen Kalyan, while Attorney General AM Amin Uddin argued for the state.
