Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has primarily found partial involvement of Jagannath University’s (JnU) suspended student Raihan Siddique Amman and relieved Assistant Proctor Deen Islam with the suicide of Fairuz Abontika.

Abontika died by suicide on Friday night in her Cumilla residence.

Replying to a question, the additional commissioner said, “Partial involvement of the arrested – Amman and Deen Islam – was found during primary interrogation.”

“The depth of their involvement will be determined by the investigation. We have done whatever was up to us, now the Kotwali Police Station of Cumilla will investigate,” he said, adding that they have handed over the duo to Kotwali Police Station, reports UNB.

The DMP additional commissioner informed that Abontika’s mother Tahmina Shabnam filed a case with Cumilla’s Kotwali Police Station last night. Two people were charged with abetment to suicide in the case.

Fairuz Abontika, a student of the 2017-18 academic year of JnU’s Law Department, hanged herself at her Cumilla residence after accusing her classmate and the assistant proctor of the university in a Facebook post around 10 pm on Friday.

In the Facebook post before committing suicide, Abontika said that her classmate Raihan Amman and assistant proctor Deen Islam were responsible for her suicide.

“If I ever die by suicide, my classmate Amman Siddiqui and assistant proctor Deen Islam, who supported him, will be solely responsible for my death. I complained to the Proctor’s office that Amman was threatening me offline and also online, but I did not get any justice. Deen Islam intimidated me in many ways on behalf of Amman. He said that expelling me is very easy for him. I know I won’t get any justice here,” she wrote.

A massive protest erupted on the JnU campus following the news of suicide on Friday night.

In the face of protest, the university authorities immediately relieved the assistant proctor and suspended the student.

Besides, the university administration formed a four-member probe committee with Masum Billah, dean of the Faculty of Law, as the convener and Law Officer Ranjan Kumar Das as the member secretary.

On Saturday, the protesting students announced to besiege the Vice Chancellor’s office on Monday to press home their six-point demand.
