Many BNP men contacted, but I discouraged them: Hafiz

BNP vice chairman Major Retd. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, regarding his joining to BNM, said they contacted me to join, but I didn’t accept their offer.

He said, “I’ve said both to the senior leaders of BNP and the men who gave me offer on behalf of BNM that in this stage of life, I can’t change political party. I’ve no political extravaganza and didn’t send anyone to election commission. Many BNP men contacted me, but I discouraged them.”

He said this in a press conference arranged at his house in Banani of the capital on Tuesday afternoon.

Major of. Hafiz Uddin Ahmed said, “There is no democracy in the country, there is dirty politics in the country. A lot of dirty games are played to win the electoral process, whichever party is in government. However, there are no shortcuts in politics. Politics cannot survive without the common people.”

He said I have told those who contacted on behalf of the government that it is not possible to change the party at this stage after spending 32 years in politics. I want to retire from politics. I was accompanied by a number of military personnel with repeated offers, at the behest of the highest levels of government.”

He complained, “I think the government has done this against me to cover up its own failure. I was the commerce minister in the last government. I did not ask to eat plums instead of dates. I did not allow it to be syndicated. I live in the house given by my father. There is no complaint against me in ACC.”
