Justice M. Enayetur Rahim, a senior judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, will perform the duties as the acting Chief Justice (CJ) in the absence of Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan due to his USA visit, state news agency BSS reported.
Supreme Court Appellate Division Registrar M. Saifur Rahman confirmed the matter on Saturday saying, "The present Chief Justice left Dhaka for the United States of America at 3:10 am on Friday and he is scheduled to return home on March 31."
"During this time, or till the Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan joins his office, Justice M. Enayetur Rahim will perform the duty of Chief Justice of the country as per the provisions of the article 97 of the Constitution of Bangladesh," he added.The Chief Justice will meet the Chief Justice of the United States on March 27 during his visit.
