Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun has issued directives for heightened vigilance to ensure the safe and comfortable journey of home-bound Eid holidaymakers, UNB reported.
The instructions were given during a meeting held at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Tuesday.
With the upcoming holy Eid-ul-Fitr and Bengali New Year celebrations, the IGP emphasised the importance of maintaining law and order, security, and traffic management. He urged field-level police officers to be on maximum alert and to personally supervise the effective implementation of measures to facilitate smooth movement on highways.Specific measures were outlined, including the halting of slow vehicles such as “nasimon,” “karimon,” and “bhatavti” on highways.
Additionally, only vehicles with fitness clearance will be permitted on the streets to ensure passenger safety.
Discussions during the meeting covered various aspects, including industrial security, traffic management, and the prevention of maritime accidents and piracy. Special attention was given to security arrangements at tourist spots, with directives issued to both tourist police and district police for necessary measures.
Addressing concerns regarding the garment industry, the IGP instructed the industrial police to promptly address issues related to workers' salaries to avoid any potential unrest.
Emphasising the need for heightened vigilance during the festive period, the IGP underscored the importance of ensuring security for homes, markets, financial institutions, and other establishments, particularly as many people leave cities during Eid.
He expressed confidence that with collective efforts, people will be able to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr and Bengali New Year in a festive atmosphere.
