Writ filed seeking direction to probe allegations against ex-IGP Benazir

A writ was filed with the High Court on Sunday, pleading for its direction upon the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to probe severe allegations of corruption against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

The matter of writ petition came into the light on Monday.

Supreme Court lawyer Md Salah Uddin Rigan filed the writ petition, saying he pleaded for court's direction as allegations of severe corruption came recently against Benazir on newspaper reports.

"I had filed an application with the ACC on April 4 for investigating the allegations raised against the former IGP. As my application went unheard, I sent a legal notice to the anti-graft body on April 18 for taking necessary steps in this regard. As that too went in vain, I filed the writ," the writ petitioner said.

"Maybe Benazir did the corruption, maybe he did not, but the allegations should be probed as the general people think that he made huge assets through corruption. The real truth will only come out through investigation," he added.

Md Salah Uddin Rigan also said the petition will likely to be heard by the court this week.

Manoj Kumar Bhowmik, the lawyer of the writ petitioner, said, "The writ may be heard in the High Court bench of Justice Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Ibadat Hossain.”

Earlier, two separate investigative reports titled 'Aladdin's lamp in Benazir's house' and 'Baner Zamite Benazir's resort' were published on March 31 and April 2 by Kal Kant on the irregularities-corruption and abuse of power behind the acquisition of huge wealth by former IG of Police Benazir Ahmed.

The international media also published reports citing the two published investigative reports.
