The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has set a fresh date for interrogating former inspector general of police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed’s wife and their two daughters over the alleged accumulation of vast assets illegally.

Zeeshan Mirza, wife of the ex-IGP, and daughters Farheen Rishta Binte Benazir and Tahseen Raisa Binte Benazir were summoned to appear before the ACC headquarters in Dhaka on 24 June, reports The Daily Sun. 

As their lawyer submitted an application seeking 15 days more to appear before the ACC, the inquiry committee of the commission took cognisance of it and fixed the fresh date, they said.

On 28 May, the ACC summoned Benazir and his family members to appear at its office on 6 June and 9 June respectively to quiz them in connection with their indulgence in corruption.  

The head of the police did not appear on the scheduled date, rather submitted a similar application seeking more time and the commission deferred the interrogation till 23 June.

The Kaler Kantho and the Daily Sun, in early April, published a series of reports detailing the wealth and properties allegedly acquired through illegal means by Benazir Ahmed and his family members which sparked a widespread discussion throughout the country.

Based on the media reports, the ACC later decided to investigate the allegations of amassing illegal wealth by Benazir and his family.
