Ex-VAT Commissioner Wahida banned from leaving country

The court has banned the former commissioner of Musak (VAT) Wahida Rahman Chowdhury from leaving the country in view of the application of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

She is accused of waiving Tk 152 crore interests of four mobile operators in a single executive decision by abusing power. In view of the application of the investigating officer of the case, the court ordered this ban. ACC has written to Immigration on Thursday to take necessary measures to prevent Wahida Rahman from leaving the country.

Earlier, on June 11, the case in this regard was filed by the ACC's Dhaka Integrated Office, Assistant Director Shah Alam.

On that day, ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin told reporters in her office that the former commissioner of Mushak, Wahida Rahman, misused her power and gave benefits to four mobile operators companies in a single decision. This has caused financial loss to the government.

She said that the former commissioner has waived unpaid interest of four mobile companies amounted to Tk 152 crore 89 thousand 390 in a single executive decision.

According to the complaint, Wahida Rahman Chowdhury has caused financial loss to the government through abuse of power and breach of trust by waiving unpaid interest of Tk Tk 152 crore 89 thousand 390.
