India to send technical team for feasibility study on Teesta dev project: Modi

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Saturday that India has agreed to conduct a feasibility study on the Teesta river basin development project in Bangladesh.

Modi made this announcement during a joint briefing after a bilateral meeting with Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina at his residence in Hyderabad House, New Delhi, earlier on Saturday, Daily Sun reports.

“We will soon send a technical team to Bangladesh to oversee the Teesta development project,” Modi said during the joint press conference.

Besides, the Ganges Water Sharing Treaty will also be renewed after holding a meeting with the technical teams of the two countries, said the Indian prime minister.

He said India will start e-medical visa facilities for Bangladeshis and it has taken an initiative to open a new Assistant High Commission in Rangpur so that the people of the North West region can afford hassle-free treatment in India.

Both sides have agreed to start negotiations on a comprehensive economic partnerships agreement or CEPA soon.

Modi said under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh will achieve Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Modi also said that new areas of cooperation have been identified like blue economy space.

He also welcomed Bangladesh's decision to join the Indo-Pacific Economic Project.
