Bank and BO accounts of Matiur, family members instructed to be freeze

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) on Tuesday (25 June) instructed the Central Depository Bangladesh Limited (CDBL) to freeze the beneficiary owner (BO) accounts of former revenue official Matiur Rahman and his family members.

On the same day, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit instructed all banks to freeze the accounts of Matiur and his family members for 30 days, reports The daily Sun.

In response to requests from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which is currently investigating corruption allegations against Matiur Rahman, the BSEC issued the order.

There are allegations that Matiur abused his senior positions at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) over the years and amassed wealth worth hundreds of crores of taka, including financial and real estate assets.

The graft allegation against Matiur Rahman came to light after his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat shared a photo of a sacrificial goat on social media claiming that the sacrificial goat had been purchased for Tk15 lakh.

Later, questions arose regarding the income of the NBR official involved in the issue.
