Jatiyo Chatra Samaj (JCS) has demanded the maximum punishment for those involved in recent attacks on students protesting for quota reform. During a press conference at the central office, JCS President Al-Mamun highlighted the peaceful protests by students across the country since July 4, calling for reforms in government job quotas. He emphasized JCS's support for the students' demands.
Initially, Chhatra League also supported the quota reform, but their stance changed following government statements. On July 15-16, Chhatra League launched violent attacks on students at various campuses, including Dhaka University and Jahangirnagar University, using weapons like pistols, hockey sticks, rods, and iron pipes.
The most tragic incident occurred on July 16, when six students were killed and hundreds injured by government-backed terrorists and some police. Al-Mamun condemned the attacks and called for swift justice and maximum punishment for the attackers. He also expressed condolences to the bereaved families and insisted on the need to reform the quota system, reducing it to a more reasonable level.JCS General Secretary Ashraful Islam Khan affirmed that student movements have always been and will continue to be pivotal in shaping the nation's history. He urged the government to review the quota system to ensure equality and supported the ongoing student protests.
