Jamaat-Shibir to be banned Wednesday by executive order

Under an executive order from the government, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing, Islami Chhatra Shibir will be banned by Wednesday, reports Daily Sun.

Law Minister Anisul Huq confirmed the information to the media at his secretariat office on Tuesday afternoon.

The Law Minister also said that he will hold discussions with the Home Minister to determine the process for implementing this decision.

Earlier on Monday, the leaders of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance strongly recommended banning the politics of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, for their involvement in anti-state activities.

The 14-party leaders reached a decision to ban politics of Jamaat-Shibir during a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader told reporters after emerging from the meeting.

The 14-party alliance leaders held a meeting with Sheikh Hasina, president of Awami League, in the chair at her official residence Ganabhaban on Monday against the backdrop of the quota reform movement.
