The Local Government Division has removed mayors of 12 city corporations, including Dhaka north and south city corporations across the country, according to an official notification, reports Daily Sun.

The remaining city corporations are Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi, Sylhet, Barishal, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Rangpur, Gazipur and Mymensingh.    

Earlier, the government removed 323 municipality mayors from their offices in application of section 32(A) of the Local Government (Municipality) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

In another notification, the Local Government Division disclosed the fresh appointment of 61 officers as Deputy Commissioners (except for the 3 hill tract areas) in the application of section 82(A) of the Zila Parishad (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024.

The notification issued in the public interest will come into immediate effect, both the notifications said.
