Home Advisor to the Interim government Lieutenant General (retd) M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Sunday said that the country’s law and order situation has been improving gradually.

He said this while France Ambassador to Bangladesh Marie Masdupuy called on him at his office at Bangladesh Secretariat in the capital.

In response to the concern over looted arms which took place at different police stations across the country in the wake of resignation of the previous government led by Sheikh Hasina, the home advisor said “the government will lunch special drive soon for recovering the illegal arms.

The advisor during the meeting mentioned on illegal and abuse of some licensed arms which were given during the regime of the previous government and necessary action will be taken in this regard.

Senior officials of the Home Ministry and Deputy Head of Mission Guillaume AUDREN de KERDREL of the French Embassy in Dhaka, among others, were present at the meeting.

In another programme on the same day, the home adviser said significant reforms are underway to transition the police force from a traditional “force” to a more service-oriented institution.

“Corruption must be stopped at all costs. There will be no concessions,” Jahangir said during a view-exchange meeting with high-ranking police officials at the Police Headquarters in Dhaka.

He underscored the government’s commitment to rooting out corruption within the force, making it clear that unethical practices would not be tolerated.

“The police must become more people-friendly through their work,” he added.
