Sooner the election, the better for country: Mirza Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for immediate elections in Bangladesh, stating that the sooner they are held, the better it will be for the country.

“Reasonable time does not mean too much time. Urgent reforms and a transfer of power to the people through elections are necessary,” Fakhrul said at a memorial meeting for late BNP Standing Committee member Brigadier General (retd) Hannan Shah in Gazipur on Friday.

He warned that any provocation will not be tolerated and called for the immediate withdrawal of cases against BNP leaders, including Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, to create a neutral political environment.

Fakhrul also accused the Awami League of plotting to destabilize the country and warned of potential unrest during Durga Puja, calling on everyone to remain vigilant. He reassured the Hindu community that any threats would be addressed collectively.

“People believe democracy should be established through free elections,” he added, urging for elections to take place as soon as possible under fair conditions.
