Singer Akbar passed away under treatment at a city hospital on Sunday.
Akbar’s wife Kaniz Fatima confirmed the matter to the media.
He was put on life support after deteriorating his physical condition on Wednesday last.The singer has been in the ICU at Bardem Hospital in the capital since Saturday last.
Akbar has been suffering from various illnesses like diabetes, and kidney problems for the last few years. He underwent surgery to amputate one of his legs due to health complications last month.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina donated Tk 20 lakh for Akbar’s treatment.
Akbar was born in Paikgacha, Khulna. The singer used to drive a rickshaw in Jashore city before becoming known as a singer. He came to the limelight after performing in the magazine show ‘Ityadi’. His song ‘Tomar Haath Pakhar Batash’ got popular among the audience.
