Ekushey Padak-winning dancer and actress Zeenat Barkatullah passed away at her residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi on Wednesday.
Her daughter actress Bijori Barkatullah confirmed the matter to the media.
In her illustrious career, Zeenat served as the director of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (production department), while overseeing its dance and music departments.She was recognised for her performances in a wide range of dance styles, including the likes of Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri, and folk dance.
Zeenat Barkatullah received Ekushey Padak in 2022 for her contribution to dance.
She also received prestigious awards, including the UNESCO award, Natya Sabha Award, BACHSAS Award and Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award.
