Singer Khalid dies

Popular singer and vocal of the 'Chime' band Khalid passed away on Monday evening while undergoing treatment at a city hospital.

He was 60.

Khalid breathed his last at 7:15 pm suffering a massive cardiac arrest. Since he fell ill at his residence, he was taken to Comfort Hospital in Green Road where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Family source has confirmed that following his first namaz-e-janaza at Green Road Jame Mosque, the singer’s body will be taken to his ancestral home in Gopalganj where he will be buried at their family graveyard following another namaz-e-janaza.

A pall of gloom descended on the musical arena following the news of his death spread, Daily Sun reported.

Be it in the band or his solo career, Khalid was always a choosy singer who had the rare quality of carrying urban romantic emotion perfectly.

“Sorolotar Protima”, “Hoyni Jabar Bela”, “Jotota Megh Hole Brishti Name”, “Jodi Himaloy Hoye”, “Abar Dekha Hobe”, “Kono Karone”, “Tumi Nei Tai” are some of the most popular songs by Khalid.

Appeared in the country’s musical scene in 1981, Khalid joined Chime two years later and initially earned huge popularity as the lead vocalist of the band. Inspired by the Eagles band and Elton John, the band’s debut album “Chime” first stormed the country’s audio market in 1985 and introduced a new vocal with a golden voice.

In the consequent years, Chime came up with “Chachir Dukkho” (1987), “Nari” (1996), “Jonmo” (2002) and “Kirtankhola” (2005) to blow the listeners with the excellence of quality music.

Besides, Khalid’s solo numbers in numerous mixed albums stole the hearts of music enthusiasts. Especially songs composed by Prince Mahmud made him a household name in the nineties and first decade of this century.
