Ferdausi Rahman’s 83rd birthday today

Today is the 83rd birthday of country’s noted singer Ferdausi Rahman. Born on 28 June 1941 in Cooch Behar, India, the legendary singer started her music career as a children artiste in radio programmes, reports Daily Sun.

In 1955, she first sang for the radio as a mature artiste. She also lent her voice to some popular songs for Pakistani films in the 1960s.

Ferdausi Rahman is a Tagore, Nazrul and playback singer simultaneously. The streak of musical success that began at a young age is still continuing.The proud personality of our country’s music industry has been honoured with various awards including the Ekushey Padak, National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement and National Film Award as a music director.  

The first released movie where Ferdausi Rahman sang as a playback singer was Ehtesham’s “Ei Desh Tomar Amar” under the music direction of Khan Ataur Rahman in 1959, followed by the film “Asia” in 1960.

One of the music directors of the movie “Asia” was her father Abbas Uddin.

She is still very popular as “Khalamoni” through Bangladesh Television’s music programme “Eso Gaan Sikhi”. Ferdausi Rahman won the National Film Award as the music director of the movie “Megher Onek Rong” directed by Harunur Rashid.  

In her career, she has recorded more than five thousand songs including three long plays, 500 disc records, about twenty cassettes. She has also lent her voice in about 260 movies.
