Strict security ahead of national polls

The government has taken strict security measures ahead of the forthcoming parliamentary elections. As part of the security plan, the leave of all forces has been discouraged from December 22 to untill further notice.

A recent instruction signed by additional deputy inspector general (Headquarters) Masud Karim confirmed the matter. 

As per the rules of the election commission, the police headquarters instructed to give security to the ministers, state ministers, lawmakers, former ministers, state ministers and top leaders of the political parties.

Besides, a Quick Response Team (QRT) has been formed at every police station to avert any kinds of unwanted situation during elections. Ten thousand Ansar members will be deployed for the safety of roads and railways across the country. For additional security, 16 thousand Ansar members are on standby.

Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Anwar Hossain told Bangladesh Pratidin that the leave of the police force is not cancelled. Considering security measures ahead of the elections, all units have been discouraged from enjoying leave. However, in case of an emergency, exceptions will be there.

The top official of the police headquarters also said there is no information about security threats or apprehension of the next elections. Nevertheless, a Quick Response Team has been formed at all units. 

Commander Khandaker Al Moin, director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) said that RAB members have been discouraged from enjoying leave from December 18 except for any emergency.

A separate striking force, Quick Response Team, and bomb disposal team have been kept prepared to ensure security during the elections. If needed, additional assistance will be provided, he added.

A directive signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General at the police headquarters Nasian Wajed said the police force will take various measures ahead of the next elections including arms recovery, arrest of fugitives under warrant, taking legal action against the obstructers of the election alongside ensuring foolproof security at every constituency.    

Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Headquarters Director (Operations) Syed Iftekharuddin said as per the directive of the Ministry of Home 10 thousand members of Ansar are working to ensure the security of the country’s important establishments including roads and rails.
