Joint investigation over MP Anar’s murder successful: DB chief

‌‌By following the 'water theory', the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who was murdered in Kolkata, has been successfully solved. DB Chief Harun-Or-Rashid thinks that this theory has given success while investigating the murder case in Kolkata. Stating that the joint investigation into MP Anar's murder has been successful, he said that DB's visit to India for investigating Anar's murder case has been 100% successful. DB chief told the reporters before leaving Kolkata on Thursday.

Bangladesh detectives have already arrested three accused, including a woman, in connection with the murder of Bangladeshi MP Anwarul Azim Anar, who was murdered in Kolkata. The 'water theory' was come by interrogating one of their accused. It means he heard the sound of water from above. After that considering the surrounding situation, West Bengal Police Intelligence Department requested the CID to check the commode, septic tank and sewage line. After that several kg of flesh was recovered from the septic tank.

DB Chief Harun said, "Initially, the pieces of flesh recovered from the septic tank is thought to be that of MP Anar, but forensics and DNA tests are necessary to be 100 percent sure about this.”

The DB Chief also said on that day that the pieces of the body will be taken to Bangladesh with an official letter to the CID.

The sample of recovered flesh has already been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for testing whether it is the body of MP Anar. If necessary, DNA test will also be done. In that case, MP Anar's daughter Mumtarin Firdous Doreen has been called to Kolkata. DB chief said, "We have requested the CID to conduct these tests very quickly."

MP Anar's daughter Dorina will come to Kolkata very soon for DNA test. She probably also got a visa to come to India. A 3-member delegation headed by Intelligence arrived in Kolkata last Thursday. From Kolkata they went to Newtown police station. They then visited the Krishnamati Bagjola Canal along with the Investigating Officer (IO). After visiting Sanjeeva residence, CID building, Hatishal Canal in Newtown respectively, besides visiting various areas, the Chief of Intelligence also spoke to Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal, CID ADG R Rajashekharan.

Harun Or Rashid said, "There has been a case in two places in Kolkata and Bangladesh in the murder of MP Anar and that is why we have come to Kolkata to investigate and the CID delegation has also gone to Bangladesh for the purpose of investigation. We have already arrested the main killer. They admitted many things. How they planned the murder, where they met in Bangladesh, where they stayed in Kolkata, what they did, these things need to be verified.”

Detective Chief said, "According to Section 362, 364 of the Penal Code of Bangladesh, If the body or parts of the body, the killer's watch or any other part is not recovered, there is little problem in solving the case. And that's why we came, our main task was to conduct search operations at various places, visit the crime spot with the accused who was arrested in Kolkata, and also conduct raids at all the places where they went. The reason for this investigation is to find MP Anar's body or body parts, because to settle a case, evidence, medical report, viscera report and symptoms are needed.

He said, “Our job was to share the information received from the accused to the Kolkata Police and assist them in their job. We think we have been able to help them. Our aim was to collect evidence, cooperate with the CID, see the digital evidence with our own eyes, collate the statements of the accused arrested in our country by talking to Jihad Hawladar, who was arrested in Kolkata, find out where the accused have gone. In that sense, we are 100% successful.

The DB chief said, “Due to the cordial and mutual relationship that has been created with the Kolkata Police, in the coming days if any criminal commits a crime from Bangladesh and considers Kolkata as a safe haven - that will not be possible. As a result, we will be able to arrest from Calcutta with more promptly.”

MP Anar was last seen at Sanjeeva Garden in Newtown in Kolkata on May 13. He is believed to have been brutally murdered that day. One of the accused is MP Anar's childhood friend Shaheen. He’s already in hiding. Shaheen is believed to have traveled to Dubai via Nepal, then to the United States. On the other hand, another accused Siam is currently staying in Nepal. DB chief Harun said that several steps are being taken by the Bangladesh government to get both of them back.

He said, "One accused is in Kathmandu, another is in America. This has already been discussed with Kolkata Police Commissioner and CID Chief. Siam's location in Kathmandu has been informed to CID investigating officers. The authorities of Nepal have also been informed by the Bangladesh government.”

Harun said, "We believe that the main mastermind of this case, Akhteruzzaman Shaheen, is currently staying in the United States. We have told the CID officials about this matter. Since the US has an extradition treaty with India, they should talk about getting Shaheen back from the US. Besides, we have also spoken to the IG of Bangladesh Police. A letter will be sent to Interpol to get him back. Besides informing the American Embassy in Bangladesh by letter, the matter of Akhteruzzaman Shaheen will be informed directly by talking to them.”

“Moreover, we have come to know about Siam's location in Kathmandu. We have already sent a letter to Nepal through higher authorities in Bangladesh. We have informed all organizations in Nepal that SIAM is currently staying in Nepal. We think that good news will come very soon,” said the DB chief.
