Nic Pothas steps in as Bangladesh's interim coach

In the absence of the regular coach Chandika Hathurusingha, Bangladesh's assistant coach, Nic Pothas, will assume the role of head coach for the team, reports UNB.

Bangladesh team has just returned home from the Asia Cup played across Sri Lanka and Pakistan. They ended up being third in the six-team event. Chandika coached the team in the Asia Cup.

Jalal Younus, chairman of cricket operations at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), stated that the head coach is presently in Australia to support his wife, who is scheduled to undergo a major surgery in the near future.

The Bangladesh squad, announced just two days earlier for the New Zealand series, is set to commence their final preparations on Wednesday.

"Chandika will be with his family and won't be available for the first two ODIs against New Zealand," Jalal informed the media on Tuesday. This means Nic Pothas will lead the Tigers during Chandika's absence.

In this series, Bangladesh will face off against the visiting team in a three-match ODI series starting on September 21st in Dhaka. The other two matches are scheduled for September 23rd and 26th.

New Zealand will return to Bangladesh for a two-match Test series after the World Cup, slated to be held in India in October-November of this year. Following the Test series, Bangladesh will journey to New Zealand for a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series.
